Mo Brooks Advances to Top Level of Young Guns Program Alabama Republican Reaches ‘Young Gun’ Status with Clear Path to Victory
Washington D.C. – The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican Mo Brooks (AL-05) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the top level of its three-tiered Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top level, Brooks has proven his ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals.
Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain very involved in Young Guns, working together to build a national wave of new conservative leaders dedicated to making Washington work for middle class Americans, not the other way around.
Mo Brooks has a distinguished record of serving Alabama families through his work as a State Representative, Madison County District Attorney and Madison County Commissioner. While serving in the Alabama House, Brooks was elected Republican House Caucus Chairman three times and was highlighted by Alabama Magazine as one of the most effective legislators. Brooks was also recognized by the Alabama Taxpayers’ Defense Fund for his work fighting taxes and the Alabama Alliance of Businesses and Industry for his pro-jobs record.
“Mo Brooks has proven that he is ready to keep this seat in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Mo’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidacies both in Alabama and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Mo Brooks will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much.”
Now that Mo Brooks has completed the benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, he is ready to take on Huntsville Democrat and liberal lobbyist Steve Raby in the general election.

U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
I’m proud to endorse Mo Brooks for Congress and am excited about his prospects to join me in Washington to get this country back on the right track.
This election, to fill the 5th District Congressional seat will be closely watched nationally and will have an enormous impact on our nation’s future. It is that important.
I’ve known Mo for almost two decades; when I was the Attorney General of Alabama, I appointed him to be a Special Assistant Attorney General because I had great trust in his legal skills. Mo’s integrity is unquestioned, and he’s never afraid to tell it like it is.
He is the right man at the right time. A tireless leader, Mo shares the conservative values of most Alabamians. Like me, he believes that the Obama administration and Democrat congressional leadership have started America down a reckless path that is costing Alabama jobs, mortgages our future and weakens our national security. That’s why he’ll fight to protect NASA and Redstone Arsenal.
Tennessee Valley families and seniors can count on Mo Brooks to put their interests before special interests in Washington.
We are in a tough fight. Mo Brooks is smart, tenacious and has the courage to match his sound principles.
Mo will help me challenge the president and the liberals in Congress when they’re wrong, and Mo will always fight for what’s right. That’s why I strongly support his efforts and will be doing everything I can to help Mo win this November. I hope you will too.
U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL)
Republican congressional nominee Mo Brooks announced the endorsement of Alabama’s senior United States Senator, Richard Shelby.
Shelby, who has represented Alabama in the Senate for 24 years, is ranking Republican on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and will become Chairman if Republicans regain control of the Senate on Election Day.
In announcing his endorsement of Brooks, Shelby said, “From health care, to national defense, and NASA, there has never been a more important time to have the right leadership in Washington. I endorse Mo Brooks for Congress because we need him on Capitol Hill to help us fight President Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s leftist agenda for America.”
Brooks added, “Senator Shelby has been a tremendous advocate for America and for funding for NASA, National Defense, highways, and other Tennessee Valley needs. Senator Shelby knows both me and my opponent very well. I am honored that Senator Shelby wants me as his ally in Washington.”
State Senator Paul Sanford
“You can count on Mo Brooks to do the right thing.”
Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong
“I’ve worked with Mo Brooks for 14 years. Mo has voted conservative every time. You can take Mo’s word to the bank.”
State Representative Phil Williams
As we see in the news every day, our nation is in an increasingly difficult situation. We have a moral obligation to future generations to pass along a strong and free nation.
I feel that it is important that we have someone like Mo Brooks representing the people of North Alabama in our nation’s capital. Mo Brooks’ conservative philosophy and political convictions are consistent with my values and with North Alabama’s conservative values.
Mo Brooks is a strong supporter of limited government, a strong national defense, and getting our nation’s financial house in order. He is well-prepared, an experienced legislator and county commissioner, which means he can hit the ground running representing the people of North Alabama in Congress.
I encourage my supporters to actively get behind Mo Brooks. He’s the right man to represent us in Congress.
Christie Carden (personal endorsement, Huntsville Tea Party founder)
“Mo has stood for principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, individual liberties and free enterprise throughout his entire political career.”
Deborah King (personal endorsement, Athens-Limestone Patriots Tea Party founder & leader)
“A hand shake and promise carry a lot of weight with me. Mr. Brooks assured me he will not let the people down.”
Chad Capps (personal endorsement, Huntsville Tea Party leader)
“After reviewing the records of all of the candidates, I endorse Mo Brooks for Congress. I really like his consistent conservative record. His long track record of fiscal responsibility makes him an ideal candidate for me.”
John E. Fanning, MD, Huntsville Physician Tea Party Leader
“I support Mo Brooks for Congress because his consistent conservative values will guide his decisions in Washington and turn back the massive growth of the Federal Government.”
